OAKS Primary School: Looking Back Six Years

A look back at OAKS Primary School six years ago, including the development of the school and its water projects. This film shows an earlier stage of the journey that has brought OAKS to where it is today.

PRIMARY Classes 1 – 6. 540 pupils—272 girls and 268 boys

There are 12 classes, with two classes in each year group.

This managed expansion of one class a year has been achieved over the last 6 years organically. With an average of 45 pupils per class. For the 2026/27 school year, OAKS Primary School teaches 540 pupils.

The charity employs 14 full time native trained teachers, which includes a head-teacher. There are two classroom assistants, one virtually dedicated to Class 1 and the other to support Maths & Business Studies. They are both engaged in Distant Learning, similar to our Open University, training for a Teaching Certificate.

The school building is ‘L’ shaped in design, incorporating 12 classrooms, staff room, teachers toilets and separate children toilets. There is an outside catering “Baffa” for child meals.

Also included is a medical room, inclusive of a full time nurse, for the benefit of ALL children and teachers ( a unique and extreme rarity in Sierra Leone)

Primary School Exam Success

In 2012, following an excellent and consistent 100% pass rate in the National Primary School Exams, we expanded into a Junior Secondary School. In 2019, the Junior Secondary moved into purpose-built premises on a new site.
